A cyclic relay or cyclic time relay is used to periodically switch on electrical loads (e.g. lighting, fans, etc.) or to generate control signals for automatic monitoring or control systems (e.g. turning on a hazard warning light or sounder). This cyclic timer can be useful for organizing automatic ventilation processes, opening and closing windows, periodically switching on heating or ventilation, lighting or rotating advertising signs.

If the relay is configured so that the on and off times are symmetrical, it can be used, for example, to gradually switch on certain electrical devices in the event of current/power limitations (radiators, heat generators). The presence of a switch output contact allows the cycle to be started with a pulse or a pause.

The timer can be mounted on a standard 35 mm DIN rail.
